I completely agree that one should prioritize a deeper understanding of software engineering practices, design patterns, testing, and even soft skills. For me personally I just figured after almost 20 years of software engineering it was time to see what all the fuss around Vim was. :) That, and I wanted to make sure I knew how to quit Vim when editing files in an SSH session! lol
